About me
My name is Michael Portelli and I have a whole array experience in many areas, from Accoounting and Finance, to Secondary School Teaching, Youth Ministry, Missionary Experience in Ethiopia and Italy, Disability Support Work, Aged Care Support & Domestic and Vehicle Cleaning. I have been operating Icthus Services for our a year now and have expanded to include many experiences. Many years ago I joined the Jesuits and spent time working with the disabled, the mentally ill, those suffering with the AIDS virus, the youth, the homeless, young men who have been in and out of prison and many other less fortunate people who are struggling in life. It was these experiences in life that led me to want to become a support worker.
With my teaching background I have learnt to put my Catholic / Christian faith into action, by working with anyone of any creed, culture, religious belief and nationality. I believe in the dignity of every human being and so whatever work I do, be it cleaning, support work, tutoring or disability aid, I see that I am there to serve my clients and to make their life easier.
My Story
My name is Michael and I am a very compassionate and empathetic person. My experiences with the poor, the homeless, overseas missions and the sick, have helped me to understand that no matter what anyone is going through, they have dignity and deserve to be respected. I have a big heart to listen and am very patient. I have a teaching background and so can work with children. I have taught in schools where there have been students with all sorts of learning difficulties, like those with ADHD, autism, anxiety and many others. I have a special interest to try and understand the individual needs of each person I come in contact with.
I am a hard worker and have a car so if a client is in need of transport then I am always available. I am a very good cook, and enjoy good conversation in whatever form that looks like. I am also an excellent cleaner and have been recently working as a gardener. My highest value is one of sincerity, honesty, empathy and a sincere desire to understand others. I have worked with people from all different aspects of life, including people of many different cultures and also different religions. For me my highest value is to respect everyone as an equal no matter there circumstances or situation may be.I am a very open person and willing to try new and different things, so whatever your needs, I am more than willing to help.
